“My child always plays with his mobile phone at night. No matter how I persuade him, he won’t listen. Let’s just cut off the Internet.”
In the small town of Messange in southwestern France, a father made this seemingly simple decision. But he didn’t expect that this “family affair” would eventually alarm the telecommunications department.
The father bought an ultra-high-power signal jammer online, intending to completely cut off the Internet at home in the middle of the night so that his children could go to bed. He thought this method was time-saving and efficient, without arguing, and even blocked the 5G signal of his child’s mobile phone.
However, the power of this device was far beyond his imagination. Not only did it block his own network, but it also affected the mobile phone signals of the surrounding communities.
There was no signal for three hours, and the whole town was “cut off from the Internet”
From midnight to three in the morning, the mobile network in the Messange area was completely paralyzed. Some people found that their mobile phones could not make calls, could not access the Internet, and even could not make emergency calls. After investigation, the operator found that a device continued to emit strong signals in a certain frequency band, interfering with normal communications.
Finally, the operator quickly located the source of the abnormal signal: an ordinary house – the owner was the father. He admitted that he bought the jammer to restrict his children’s Internet access, but he didn’t expect the signal range to be so wide that even the communication of the neighbors was affected.
He just wanted his children to go to bed early, but he used the wrong method
The father’s starting point is not uncommon: he is worried that his children will play with their mobile phones too late at night and affect their rest.
